The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the State Bank of Pakistan has decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 21 percent upon the expectation that the surging inflation will fall from June onwards, the central bank said in a statement.

“The MPC noted that higher inflation outturns for April and May were broadly as anticipated. The Committee also noted sequential ease in inflation expectations of both consumers and businesses from their recent peaks,” the statement said on Monday.

Earlier in April, the bank raised the policy rate by 100 basis points to the record high of 21 percent in order to curb the surging inflation.

The meeting also said that the current monetary policy stance, with positive real interest rates on a forward-looking basis, is appropriate to anchor inflation expectations and to bring down inflation towards the medium-term target, barring any unexpected domestic and external shocks.

However, the MPC emphasized that this outlook is also contingent on effectively addressing the prevailing domestic uncertainty and external vulnerabilities.

Pakistan and India on Sunday exchanged a list of their nuclear installations that cannot be attacked in case of an escalation in hostilities, a Foreign Office statement said here, as part of an annual ritual that has been in practice between the two neighbours for more than three decades, Report informs via Outlook India.

The lists of nuclear installation and facilities were exchanged as per the provisions of the Article-II of the Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities, signed on December 31, 1988 and ratified on 27 January 1991.

According to this agreement, both countries have to inform each other of the nuclear facilities. This practice of exchanging lists has continued since January 1, 1992.

“Pursuant to the agreement, the list of nuclear installations and facilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday,” the Foreign Office said in the statement.

Simultaneously, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs also handed over their list of nuclear installations and facilities to a representative of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, according to the Foreign Office.

The exchange comes amid strain in ties between the two countries over the Kashmir issue as well as cross-border terrorism. These lists are exchanged under the provisions of the Agreement on Consular Access signed in May 2008.

Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) is all sent to send 159 containers of 155mm artillery shells, M4A2 propelling bag charges, M82 primers, and PDM fuses to Ukraine, APA reports citing First Post.

This massive haul will be shipped to Ukraine through Poland over the coming weeks.

Even as millions of people across Pakistan continue to struggle in dire misery due to a severe food shortage and worsening economic crisis, the country is all set to send another consignment of weapons and ammunition to help Ukraine fight the ongoing invasion by Russia.

The Economic Times reported that Project Shipping – a Pakistani shipping and brokerage firm – will transport the consignment from the Karachi Port to the Gdansk Port in Poland later this month with a ship named BBC Vesuvius.
